[New Years Eve] --
Annie had gotten back from a quick trip to Costa Rica - five days of boredom that couldn't be undone - and without New Years plans, she found herself working late on New Years Eve to finish paperwork before heading to the elevator around nine. She'd gotten a bottle of red wine and she planned on popping it open and drinking it while watching the ball drop in Times Square on television.
She pushed the button again, wondering what could possibly be taking so long, and when the door opened, she saw: Clayton Webb, in her favorite pinstripe suit and wearing the tie she'd gotten him for his birthday the year previous. It was such a flashback that she caught her breath and had to focus before taking steps to enter the elevator. Then she gave him a quick smile to avoid any possible awkwardness, aware that there was little she could do.
He smells so good, she thought as the door slid shut. As it moved, she turned to him and said, "Working late on New Years?"
